2nd Annual HSV Garden Challenge

O how I excited I am! For those who dont know, the HSV host a Garden Challenge each year. Rules are pretty simple– grow whatever you like, blog about progress and link up each month. They have AWESOME Sponsors as well. Last year Heavens garden was one of the winners and this year , we are trying just as hard for that spot ;)

After we won, we were sent a great gift card but my favorite part was,  it was in a card that said “Best of luck this homeschool year” and that card hangs on the wall of our homeschool. To me it was a symbol that someone out there cares (even at the times I feel I’m alone in the homeschooling world)

Last year we had to pick our corn early due to the giant raccoons around here. This year I want to be prepared so I will be building a pen I found on Pinterest. My MIL was kind enough to get the kids tool bags and tools for Easter, in them came cucumbers and watermelon. I might start them in the house while the pen is being constructed but I know now not to plant out in the open where critters can eat my food (-_-)

(Excuse the mess on my desk)

The next link up is “Thursday April 26th sponsored by Apologia.  Link up & share your progress! Did you “break ground” or still growing starter plants?  Are the kids excited, do you see any buds, or are you fighting army worms?”

So make a post, link up today (or through the week) and get ready for a challenge =)

St Pat’s Day Fun

Heaven will be 4 in May and is now starting to understand certain holidays. I thought this year would be fun to tell her about “The Little Leprechaun”

I started out by sending Hev a letter from “The Little Leprechaun”

We then made a trap and replaced chocolate with Lucky Charms to trick the Leprechaun

Well our trap didn’t work and when we woke up there was a BIG mess! He left a rainbow trail for us to follow..

He got into green paint and left it everywhere he went BUT he also left gold coins

Put a game on the kitchen floor

Spilled the bugs

Moved the bread

Made a mess on the table

He even stacked blocks to climb the table

He also got in the fridge and bathroom!!

Turned our milk green

and made a mess on the potty

The kids thought it was worth cleaning the mess after they collected their gold

Tornado Lesson

With all the tornado’s touching down in the previous weeks, I thought I should start talking to Heaven about them.

To start our lesson, we went to Youtube and typed tornado in the search bar. We then went through and watched the destruction that a tornado can cause to houses and communities.

After, we watched THE WIZARD OF OZ for the 1st time together! My FAV part, Heaven is almost 4 and is now taking interest in it!!!

Time4Learning

I’ve been invited to try Time4Learning for one month in exchange for a candid review. My opinion will be entirely my own, so be sure to come back and read about my experience. For those wondering, Time4Learning can be used as a homeschool curriculum, for afterschool enrichment and for summer skill sharpening. Find out how to write your own curriculum review for Time4Learning.

Science and Review

This week we continued to grow things. This by far is my favorite thing we have grown indoors. In the matter of 3 days, it went from a regular piece of garlic, to growing roots and sprouting. Pretty cool to watch it happen so fast.

In the 9 hours it has been since I took the picture, they have grown even bigger.

We took this week to do some review. Once we finish up our school yr lessons, we will be moving on to some mini lessons like space.
