The Caterpillar

This past weekend when JJ was here, he found a caterpillar. I had him bring it in and we put it in the bug catcher with a couple leaves. The next day I went to check on it and noticed somethings were starting to change.

It had pooped then started to build what looked like a spider web. Later I went to show my husband but the caterpillar was fast and already made his home.

Day 2

I will update when/if he comes out of his cocoon. I’m not sure how long he will be in there but I dont think it will be to long. Today is day 23 and it came out! I will have a update post soon.

  1. Great timing on finding the caterpillar! This should be a very interesting learning opportunity for the young ones! MY six year old would go crazy over this! :) Jeanette

  4. We have been working on a Butterfly Lapbook for a couple of weeks now, and we've been reading some info. One source I ran across compared and contrasted moths and butterflies. It said moths make cocoons and butterflies make chrysalises. So I wonder if what you've got there is actually a moth??? It will be interesting to find out!

  5. Yeah, I think it might be a moth rather than a butterfly, but either way it's neat to observe! We did Painted Ladies from Insect Lore twice. Kids really enjoyed watching them "hatch"! Stopping by from Science Sunday!Jessy
